(re)size window for folders in 'Home' / open 2 (or more) such folders at the same time

Asked by Gerd Heinlein

After upgrading to the 12.04 version, I find that for folders opened in 'Home Folder', the window occupies all of the screen - I am unable to change its size. This precludes opening 2 (or more) such folders at the same time, or viewing them together with a terminal. (I have no trouble in resizing terminals.)

Also, for such folders containing image files, I can't view 2 images simultaneously - as soon as I open a second one, the first one will disappear in the background (as it were).

All these things could be done in the previous (10.04 ? ) version.

Do you mean like a split view of folders?

Thanks

No. At least, the way I understand it, this only allows viewing two copies of the _same_ folder.
What I want is to view two ( or more) _different_ folders at the same time: These might e.g. contain files for variants of some image, and I want to visually compare these by opening them in their respective folders.

Also, I'd like to simultaneously view a terminal and one (or more) folders opened in 'Home Folder'.
(I use mutt for my mail and read it in a terminal; I sometime receive images in my mail which I
want to compare with images in an existing folder, before saving them.)

Even with a split view of _one_ folder, I can't visually compare two images from the same folder(at least not without making the folder itself disappear by clicking on '-', and that's fairly bothersome, when you want to do this repeatedly.)

All of this was _easily_ be accomplished in the Ubuntu version before the upgrade, where folders opened in 'Home Folder' could be reduced in size, and more folders could be opened (in a new window or another tab).
But I can't find a way to reduce the (window) size (for folders opened In 'Home Folder') in the
present version 12.04 - the window is 'full screen' and trying to drag corners with the mouse
doesn't seem to work. (It does work for terminals and Firefox windows.)

All of a sudden, the problem doesn't exist anymore - opening a folder from 'Home Folder' now produces a smaller window the size of which can be changed at will.
I don't know what happened but, at any rate, the problem can be considered solved.
