conecting android jelly bean phone conflict with banshee MTP file type

Asked by Robert Jackett

Is there a solution for connecting android phones.?

My phone used to connect to ubuntu seamlessly into banshee and transfer files etc.

With update of Jelly Bean in android they removed what was called the disc drive,( disc drive basicly turned the phone into a usb portable drive this function worked extremely well with everything on ubuntu. )
With the removal of the disc drive, my phone is problematic to connect now to ubuntu, I have growled and growled at HTC who only suggest contacting ubuntu or android.

Is there a setting in ubuntu that will make my phone compatible I see support mtp type files in banshee it is ticked but still there is a problem.

Problem is much worse when banshee is open, this is the error I get ( Unable to mount Android Phone ... Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device ) once I have shut down banshee close home folder turn off then back on debugging in my phone I can then open home folder in ubuntu and access files on phone, all be it very slowly.

From what I can work out is this is all something to do with mtp file systems which I believe is a windows type file.

what I feel should happen is when I connect phone I should be asked what do you wish to open with then select banshee
banshee should open and I should see my phone in the bottom left corner of banshee
I should be able to click and drag music and when finished ask banshee to disconnect my phone.

Thanks
Rob Jackett

I am sure there are ways to mount your android phone via usb (link below, or mtp ubuntu google) , however MTP support at the moment is not great (from personal experience with Nexus 7, 4.2 also, on 12.04.2 ). An easy alternative is Airdroid (google play link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd ), which connects your phone to your computer provided they are on the same wifi network. This is a little bit slower than usb transfer but you have access to all your files (including system etc etc) and it is secure (https if you choose).

If you want to connect via usb then follow links below.

Can you help with this problem?
