For security reasons the "root" user is disabled in Ubuntu, and there is another technique to do administrative tasks - the sudo and gksudo commands.

To manage files for which your user account does not have the required access rights (e.g. changing configuration files in the system area) you would use the command

gksudo nautilus

You have use extreme caution, because with that command you have far reaching access rights including the potential to delete files that are crucial for Ubuntu.

Run this command:
gksu nautilus
