Hello,

On the wiki there is a guide to help move from Windows to Ubuntu, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwitchingToUbuntu/FromWindows, and also for Edgy, the doc team worked up a guide that has taken from that wiki page and provided a little more information. Hope that helps you out.

Hi, Deadwire-

Synaptic is one of the more powerful and easy to manage ways to install software under Ubuntu. There is a wiki for getting started with it here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto

You also might find this information on generally installing software in Ubuntu useful: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware?highlight=%28software%29%7C%28installing%29

If these comments solved your problem, please consider closing this request as answered. You can find useful information on managing your support requests here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SupportRequests

If you are still having problems, let us know and we'll keep working on them.

Thanks-

Jim Jones
