Restore/clean my Dell notebook to factory settings

Asked by lucy alvelos

I have sold my Dell notebook onto a friend, so before I hand it over I need to restore the notebook back to its original factory settings, and ensure that all my files are deleted.

How do I do this?

Thanks

Just delete all the hidden folders in the users home except:
~/.bashrc
~/.ICEauthority
~/.profile

You can also empty out the Pictures, Downloads and so forth folders if you wish. The rest of the files will be generated to defaults on login. I suggest you do it in a root recovery console to be safe :)

Can you help with this problem?
