how do i download photos from my nokia mobile to ubuntu 12.04 ,why is it so difficult to do this

I can not seem to download photos to my pictures folder from my mobile phone which is a nokia onto ubuntu 12.04 why is this please ,I am having to download from another pc onto a usb pen drive via windows then transfer them to my pic folder in ubuntu ,surely there must be a way to do it directly into my ubuntu pictures folder surely!?

Just plug in your phone with a usb cable , and select data storage .
Your phone's memory chip would be mounted as a storage device like other storage media s .
You are good to go .
