If you cannot just remove the camera SD card to read on your computer, try installing the mtp-tools package (media transfer protocol). I too noticed recently I could not conned my camera via usb, which I thought I could in the distant past, so I installed the mtp-tools and at least could get the pics that way (but I usually just remove the SD card).

No it didn't, I don't know what happened, accidentally hit that button. What would I do with the SD card? Where can I get the mtp-tools pacage?

If your computer does not have an SD slot, then buy a usb SD card reader for a few dollars. Most well stocked drug stores carry them these days. Check your SD card and if it says "SDHC", then make sure your reader also says "SDHC" capable. Get the mtp-tools package directly from the Ubuntu packages. Search for mtp and see if that finds the mtp-package (the needed library should automatically get selected too).
