I have no Idea where to put suggestions for Ubuntu.

Asked by Matthew

I want to suggest this idea, but I don't know how nor do I have the time to search various websites. I tried brainstorm.ubuntu.com, but the page wouldn't load. If someone could PLEASE put this where it should be it would be greatly appreciated.

The question is:

Allow .bin, and .Run files to execute without physical input.

This is the most annoying thing about Linux. Don't get me wrong I love it, but this is just getting repetitive. Whenever I download say a game (Cold War) it's a .run file. I always have to click properties, permissions>Allow to be ran as an executive. When you are only doing it once, it doesn't bother you, but when you have to do it multiple times. It's just unnecessary. I personally would like to see an update that put's these files as an executive type by DEFAULT.

This would be something you need to take up with the publishers of Cold War. Either they haven't produced a debian install file, or it's been done incorrectly. You should look for the .deb installer and download that. Clicking on the .deb file should then install it correctly in Ubuntu, but you will be asked for your password to verify the installation.

As for anything requiring manual installation, again you should take it up with the publisher and ask for a debian install file. Apart from that, just downloading any old script or executable and letting it install and run is what makes that 'other' operating system so insecure and prone to problems. I don't think you're going to convince anyone to start doing it that way after 50 years of secure operations.

For valid ideas you want to suggest then Ubuntu Brainstorm is one of the better places. Perhaps there is a transient problem with the website and you should try again later.
