Can't change backgrounds or patterns

Asked by GregCwx1

Nautilus will not allow a change of backgrounds or colors when using Edit > Backgrounds and Emblems from the file browser menu. I can add emblems to file icons but when I drag a color or background pattern to someplace in the browser window it just flies back into the dialog box and nothing changes. Is this tied to Preferences > Appearance in some way? I have turned off Visual Effects and wonder if that is the reason this feature isn't working?

Are you sure your image to be added is of PNG type and has an exact square resolution of 128x128 or less?

I can reproduce the same behaviour described by GregCwx1 on Ubuntu 7.10. When you drag the color (or) pattern to nautilus window the event is cancelled as it reach the destination object. I found it work only if the destination target is desktop.
The bug is similar to:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/fileroller/+bug/13199

That is not resolved in Ubuntu 7.10. It seems that in this release drag&drop is bugged.

I was trying to send an e mail and apparently hit a key by mistake - background screen is all black - printing in colors (yellow, orange etc) and all photos appear as negatives. How do I get my screen back in it's normal white background??

Can you help with this problem?
