how to open files with extension DAT on my Ubuntu 11.10 ?

I am downloading a movie using Vuze with extension DAT. How can I open it on UBUNTU11.10?

File extensions dont mean much in Linux, so saying its a ".DAT file" tells us very little.

What is the output of:

file filname.dat

Obviously change the filename and location and case if required.

Just Rename the ".DAT " to ".mpg" and try.
