How do I set SVG files to open in Inkscape by default?

Asked by Magnes

Right now in Ubuntu 11.10 every time I click SVG file it opens in EOG which doesn't allow editing and displays more complex SVG files just wrong. I want SVG files to open in Inkscape - like I had setup in all earlier versions of Ubuntu. But apparently there is no option for setting "open always in that application" when I right click and select "open in other application". :(

Do the "open with other application" anyway, and select Inkscape.

The option to always use the selected action is still the default, it's just that there's no checkbox to _disable_ the adoption of the action as default.

Go Figure.

It doesn't work. EOG is still default. I tried updating nautilus to latest in Ubuntu 11.10, I tried selecting Inkscape from menu, selecting it from other application and even showing more application in the selection dialog before selecting Inkscape.

*other application = other applications list
* more application = more applications

On Nautilus, right clock on icon and select properties. Then select tab "Open with..." and change default application.

As Delance said, right click on an svg, select properties, then the "Open With" tab. Select Inkscape and click the button "Set as default".
