how does one run the file manager as root su

Asked by Bill Weder

In checking the help drop down for ubuntu, there is no documentation for running the file manager under root super user. I tried "root" and "SU" ..... . How come you have hopelessly hidden this crucial information. Is'nt there a control key combination that allows one to move files and directories around by drag and drop without having to go to the command line?

From the terminal you can type "sudo nautilus". Nautilus is the Gnome file manager, and sudo starts it as root.

What version of Ubuntu are you using?

And whats the front end i.e Gnome, Unity, KDE etc.

Try pressing ALT-F2 and typing

gksu nautilus

does that work. It should assuming your front end is either Gnome or Unity. If you have something else the command will be different and I can't help but others will.
