brother printer will not owrk in Ubuntu

Have set up Ubuntu 10.4 on my computer./ Trying to use Brother printer Mf 255CW and will not work. Downloaded Linux drivers for Brother model, but can't get them installed. How do you accomplish that?

Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a

Please run command
    lsusb
and check printer is seen on USB bus.
