Asked by Joe Hunt

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04, and I cannot move any of the open windows around. They seem to be locked into place

JMO...If this is your first experience with Ubuntu, I would suggest downloading 10.04 LTS (long term support) instead of 11.04. I had 10.04 but I upgraded to 10.10 then to 11.04 and found that 11.04 had too many bugs. I constantly had problems. I went back to 10.04. From my research (I am NOT a programmer) it seems that there is very little difference between 10.04 and 10.10, except that 10.04 has LTS. Again, JMO. I am very happy with 10.04. Very customizable (I have the desktop cube, for example).

If you run:

sudo apt-get -y install compizconfig-settings-manager; ccsm

Then enable the move plugin

to michelle,
I started with Ubuntu 10.4 and i thought it was great. I decided to upgrade to 11.4 I just need to figure out all the work arounds and actual fixes. but other than that. I would say its great. Thanks for the info though

Glad it worked for you and glad your problem received an answer! I think I'm
going to wait a while on the 11.04 until it's a bit more stable. But enjoy!
