cannot set nautilus to browser mode

Asked by black-beret

Ubuntu 11.04 Classic
Gnome 2.32.1
Nautilus 2.32.2

Further to question 149882 (which has been expired without a solution), I have exactly the same problem;
QUOTE
 "Open Nautilus
Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Behavior
Click the Help button
The Behavior Preferences page comes up
In that help page at the top it says: "You can set the following preferences:", listing one in particular called "Always open in browser windows"
Go back to your previously opened Behavior window from Edit->Preferences
The option "Always open in browser windows" IS NOT THERE."

I have reinstalled Nautilus with Synaptic but still no Browser Mode option available.
I don't know how to upload a screenshot so this is the best I can do to show the missing Browser mode option.
(Some of the symbols got messed during copy and paste)

You can use imageshack to host images, or the public folder in dropbox if you use dropbox

probably that feature had not been implemented and was just a wish list and the description was not removed when the program was distributed. lots of open source and paid for software are like that.

You can try setting "always use browser" using gconf-editor .

it should be in
/apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser

You will need to install the gconf-editor package.

I'm running maverick still, so I may be a little out of date.
