switch drive in unfocused pane when two panes view active

Asked by Jakub Dubovsky

Hi there,

I am using nautilus in mode with two panes (it would be nice to have posibility to set double pane view as default but this question is about something else). Let's say I have opened folders in both of them and there are so many files/subfolders in both folders that I have got a scroll bar in both. Now I want to see a content of completely different drive in unfocused pane. I need to focus it to be able to switch drive. As far as I know the only way I can focus this pane by mouse is to click on it. But there is no way to click in pane which is full of files without actually opening the file which is quite annoying. So my question is, how can I focus unfocused pane without blank space in sight by mouse without opening file or subfolder clicked.

Thank you
Jakub

With nautilus you can use the

--geometry=

To then add some more settings to achieve the display you want (Not used it myself but may be possible).

ALT+TAB may be helpful to you too

Very good usability question.
Try F6 to toggle between panes.
Or enable location bar (ctrl+l) and just click there.
Or try TAB key.

i don't have the problem with dual panes in nautilus that you described. are you using nautilus? what you described is a problem with the dolphin file manager though.

if you're using nautilus, make sure that you don't have dwell click set. what dwell does is automatically do a mouse click when you move the cursor over something and stop there.

Enabling location bar is nice workaround. I am fine with it.

I am using Nautilus

I am using Nautilus 2.32.2.1
I don't think I have something like dwell click set because I don't experience auto click or something. I just cannot focus pane by clicking on it because that would open the file/subfolder.
