Shortcut to home dir

Asked by Troy

Hello!

I am trying to create a link/shortcut on my desktop that opens my home directory. It seems when I just drag and drop the folder it is trying to copy it onto the desktop which is inside my home folder and hence throws an error.

How do I tell the system I just want a shortcut?

Alternatively, to get the Computer, Trash and Home icons on your Desktop in a fully functional manner do this:

Hit ALT+F2 and enter 'gconf-editor' (Without quotes)

In the Window which opens, browse to Apps > Nautilus > Preferences.

Check the following buttons there:
computer_icon_visible
home_icon_visible
thrash_icon_visible

Now you will have all three permanent working icons on your desktop :)
