no mp3 file preview after gutsy upgrade

Asked by ex-xp64

In Preferences on the Preview tab I have 'Preview sound files' set for 'always'. Nothing. Tried 'local files only' to no avail. FIles are set to open with Audacious and play fine. But when I place the cursor on the file icon just silence. Anyone else with the same problem?

This is a known bug, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mpg321/+bug/125739 . First thing to try would be to install esound, and mpg321 it seems.

Hope this helps!

hi:

try installing:
mpg123-alsa
pulseaudio-esound-compat

do this in a terminal:
sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-esound-compat mpg123-alsa
then make sure you have the previews activated in nautilus

Thanks guys.

Nothing seemed to work until I tried mpg123-esd. That was the ticket.

mpg123-esd
pulseaudio-esound-compat

However using pulseaudio means I have to change the audio output prefs in my media player to pulseaudio from alsa. I'd rather keep using Alsa if possible but it's really no big deal if there's not diff in sound quality. It's either esound or pulseaudio, so maybe I'll go back and try esound and see if that works with alsa.
