How can I change the nautilus columns width in file manager?

Asked by schnollk

I Cannot modify the width of the columns in nautilus file manager, when the mouse is on the right side of the column of the name (for example) I see the double arrow but I cannot move the width neither right clicking nor left. Simply does not happen anything. Am I making something wrong? Can you hel me? (I use Ubuntu 8.10 and Nautilus 2.24.1)
Thank you
mario

Hi Ubuntuworld.

Is there noone out there who knows how to set this setting? I'd really welcome an answer here.

Thanks again,
cheers.

It can take awhile to reach people. It's not like we get paid to do this! Try to go to edit, preferences. Also to the left is a menu to view as a list or icons. For really long names, it is best to use the list view. Also try to shorten the names.

It's 2010 and the annoyance is still present. To re-iterate in nautilus detail view, I can drag the column width of the file name field to the right only. Any attempt to make it small does not work. Is there a setting somewhere that controls this behavior?

It is 2013 and this bug is still alive! In Gnome Nautilus 3.8.2 under kernel 3.8.0-26-generic (64-bit), using the mouse to change column width is unavailing. It's as if these widths are hard coded. This seems to be a reversion, since the problem has been reported by various people ever since 2007. Now, 6 years later, the bug remains unswatted. This sort of thing is an embarrassment to Ubuntu. Can something be done?

Can you help with this problem?
