Cannot Parse incoming data

Plugged in an asus BT dongle, which ubuntu picked up instantly.
linked with Casio Brigade
can view files on the phone, but any attempt to open any of the files to view contents results in error message: Cannot Parse Incoming Data.
Now, these are music, video and pics,
installed blueman, which looks like it has some good features.
still getting the same error message.
I really don't know what this means or how to fix it.
I've tried sending things too the phone as well: "connection refused" when sending file, "cannot parse" again when clicking and dragging.
Thanks for all assistance -this BT link is important to my work, as data cables for this phone are apparently no longer available.
