Ubuntu 10.10-Everything in Places opens in Brasero

Asked by John Hagerman

After working on a video in Open Shot and using DeVeDe to write it to disc, every item in Places opens in Brasero, instead of the normal window. Brasero then asks me if I want to make every name of every file in the item compatible with Windows. What has changed?

You can solve this simple way, right click a folder, Select Open With, Select Other Application, then select "File Browser" from list. After that your problem should solved.

or

You can use the following link, to solve your problem:

Emre, you are a life saver!
It's now glaringly obvious, but I never before realized how useful it could be to check that line "Remember this application for 'folder' files. And so much simpler than going in and editing the code.
Shouldn't this simple trick appear somewhere in the Ubuntu documentation? I note in the page you referenced the problem is pretty common.
Thank you - I'm off to bed, and I'll now sleep soundly!

Well, that's nice and solved the immediate problem, but I still don't
know what changed the folder options, because I had never used the 'Open
With' window. Did OpenShot Video Editor do it, did DeVeDe do it, or was
it Brasero or WinFF? I used them all in the video project I was working
on and noticed the problem only after the video was complete. Obviously
Brasero is the prime suspect, since it was the last used and is the
program which became the "Open" default.
