toolbar (places) it sends me to my appearance preference

ok in my toolbar places when I click on a sub folder like pictures or music it sends me to appearance preference then tells me that There was an error installing the selected file "Pictures" does not appear to be a valid theme. I m running ubuntu 10.10 and new to ubuntu. I also have a second question how do I get the password off when my screen saver comes on. so if someone can give me a step by step way of doing it.. that would be great!
