Cannot copy install iso disk w/ cd Creator or Brasero in Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Ted Pomeroy

It seems I am unable to make copies of my install disk for Lucid 10.04.1. The re-writer shows accepts and mount s the disk. It is on the desktop, but I cannot drag it successfully into the burner window. I really want to make a copy of the CD for a friend who has an older computer that I don't think will boot from the flash drive I already have made successfully.

were you able to write to the cd before?
have you looked in System>Administration>Users & Groups to see if you have access priviledges to the cd drive?

M-A, Thanks, already have privs. I can play music and I check to see if I
can copy music. This machine has only the cd re-writer so I have to copy and
then change disks to burn a disk. But that has worked easily in the previous
Ubuntu's I have been using. I may just go back to 8.04 or 9.10. That might
be better because I cannot afford the latest hardware. Thanks, Ted P.

ummm...who's the eejit that's telling you that you need the latest hardware to run 10.04? I have a very old lenovo laptop that's running 10.04 quite well. btw, ver 8 is not longer supported.

M-A, Ii am eejit who find too many changes in usage of known
applications. Ubuntu developement sometimes sseems more like a game to
make arbitrary changes to keep users studying the man pgs. What you
think. Maybe i have an error, i can re-assemble hdwre, 2 hours and re
install, 1 hour/ or less. Is this good use of time? I thinkin'k i
prefer 9.10. Thank you. TP

Hello,

You would be better off downloading the latest 10.10 version of Ubuntu. This is an ISO image. You can then very easily burn this to a CD with Brasero.

Allan :)

ANOTHER SOLUTION: Today, 2012, March 13, I found a route to enable Brasero cd copy feature: Warnings said, "Please install the following manually and try again: toc2cue (application), cdrdao (application)."
What I did was use apt-get install to install cdrdao from the 'Main' repository. After that disk, Brasero copy disk worked. TP.

Hello,

Both of these files are available in the Synaptic Package Manager. The first file is cue2toc and not as written.

Allan :)

Thank you Allan, that explains why I could only install one of the two items, though I thought the first was installed, but not where Brasero could find it. There was a point where the message "searching for file 'cue2toc'" waited and failed.
In all events, you see that as a user I was still making corrections and discoveries 2 years on in my use of the Lucid 10.04 LTS. I am glad I have a year to figure the next transition. Ted P.
