Deleting files

Asked by Janet Baglien

When I right click - I have two options - Show hidden Files and Add to bookmarks (but this one is not in bold and cannot be chosen). I don't have the move to trash option. What am I doing wrong. It's for OpenOffice word processor

Hi Janet

OOo has two options for Open/Save dialogues - to use OpenOffice dialogues or not, the latter being to use the host system's file dialogues, which is the default. This option is in Tools > Options... > OpenOffice.org > General > Open/Save dialogue boxes.

Personally, I prefer the system dialogue boxes, but these do not include a delete option. Myself, I would always use the File Browser from the Ubuntu Places menu to 'delete' files, because the option 'Move to deleted items folder' does just that, and I have a chance to restore them, if I change my mind.

If you take the option 'Use OpenOffice.org dialogue boxes' you will get an option to Delete. But BE WARNED! There is NO way to restore files deleted this way. Personally, I think this behaviour is wrong and I have filed a Bug report for it.

Hope this explains everything.

Tony
