Can't access DVD ROM

Asked by Josh Lopez

When I put a disc in the DVD Rom drive, I get a message that says I don't have permission to access contents of the drive. Then I can't even get the drive to eject. I barely know what the terminal is, but I can follow step by step directions pretty good. Can someone be my hero?

Does this happen with all discs you put in the drive?

Honestly, I only have this one DVD movie with me, 'cause I NEVER watch movie's. I'll probably buy a DVD Burner soon, but I'd still like to know if this one works. I inherited the computer, so I don't know the motherboard, CPU is a Pentium III (coppermine?) 133Mhz, 256mb SDRAM (I think), it used to run Windows Millenium (yeah, that old, but it runs like a champ with Ubuntu). I don't know how else to find out more about it besides 'looking under the hood'. With Windows XP I had a little program that told me stuff called CPUZ.
