Antonyjoy,

If this is an internal (non-removable) drive you could add it to fstab and it won't show up on your desktop.

For removable drives I'm not sure - but am subscribing to your question in hopes you get an answer :)

Good luck,
George

For removable drives you should open gnome configuration tool (gconf), there find applications-nautilus-there you search for icons on the desktop (there you can see bin, home folder, removable media, etc) - put tick where you need

Applications>system tools>gnome configuration tool (gconf)>apps>nautilus>desktop>on the right side uncheck volumes_visible.

antonyjoy,

Zvacet's suggestions certainly works for me, I have converted it into a gconftool-2 line below:

$ gconftool-2 -s /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible --type boolean false

Thanks zvacet :)
