Extra pane in Nautilus 2.30.0

I have been eagerly awaiting the extra pane option in Nautilus, now that it is available I would like a few additional features to make it more usable.
1) Option in prefs to set this as my default view. At the moment I have to press F3 to each time I open nautilus.
2) Not easy to select which pane is the focus, need some where I can click in each pane to make it the focus.
3) would like a standard set of buttons along the top of each pane, such as up, back, forwards, copy, move
4) Would be useful if the second pane cold be set as a preview pane as well, to be able to view files you selects such as pictures, text files and documents.

Must admit I have been spoiled over the years having been a great fan of Directory Opus both on the Old Amiga and now my work PC. Would love similar functionality in Ubuntu
