tv tuner software issues

Asked by nwc210

I've been having a lot of trouble getting my tv tuner card to work on ubuntu. So far it seems that the software available is incredibly difficult to install, and being new to ubuntu, I have no idea how to do some of the things that "installation guides" have vaguely stated. The actual issue is that after I install "klear" from the package that is already available, when I try to run the application to set it up, it tells me i'm missing some stuff (channels.conf, dvb stuff etc). It tells me to go into the directory and add these things. Well not only do i not know where to find the directory, but I also have no idea what these files are or how to get them. If anyone can give me a beginners installation guide for anything, whether it be klear, myth tv, or freevo, please reply. Thanks a bunch.

The easiest way is probably to install mythtv, ive found a nice guide here: http://parker1.co.uk/mythtv_ubuntu.php it should all be gui stuff and isnt too hard to configure :)

You are missing channels.conf.

Get one from klear.org - e.g. http://klear.org/channellists/DVB-T/taiwan-dvbt.channels.conf looks like NTSC. Most of the others look like something else.

Copy it to ~/.klear/channels.conf

That may get you past one hurdle.

One problem is that "scan" doesn't work which I suspect would generate channels.conf

I am going to try again tomorrow with a different device.

Can you help with this problem?
