Show the full path in the nautilus title bar

Asked by Louis

Hi,

Recently I change to use Ubuntu 9.10 for my workstation, I'm a web developer and I need to run many Nautilus file browser for different path. I find it very difficult to use Nautilus because it only show the current folder name in the Window Title Bar, most of the time I need to go through all the file browser to find the correct one. I wish you can add this feature in next version of Nautilus allow us to configure Nautilus to show the full path in Title Bar.

Another problem I have is not sure related to Nautilus or the task bar, in my task bar I've set it to group all the windows, so my Nautilus are group together, the problem here is when I navigate to other folder in Nautilus, the position get change in the task bar, I noticed that it sort the window using ascending order of the name of the title bar. This make me even more difficult to use.

So if this also can control by Nautilus, I hope you can provide a setup to disable the sorting, so I can always remember the first file browser window is in which path as well as other window.

I believe these feature are not complicated one, small little change will make many programmer happy!

Regards
Louis

You may add suggestions upstream since Nautilus is Gnome project.
http://library.gnome.org/users/user-guide/stable/nautilus-presentation.html.en

If I use text instead of buttons it shows full path and in additon autocompletition.

Concerning the other issue, not sure to understand correctly.
Applets preferences have nothing to do with Nautilus. Maybe applet 'window list' does help or open new folders in tabs.
As far as grouping windows, Compiz has a plugin for this.

Thanks for the reply.

OK, I'll suggest to GNOME.

Window Title Bar is different form Location bar, yes I know I can change location bar button to show full path, but no where I can change the Window Title Bar information.

Sorry I'm not good in describe, but you can do a simple test,
1) Set your panel to "Always Group Windows"
2) open multiple File Manager and navigate to different folder
3) click on File Manager in the panel, it will show you which File Manager to select, and remember their position order
4) then pick one File Manager, and navigate to other folder
5) click on File Manager in the panel again, now you will see the order changed.
6) Imagine your have many folder name call src, but in different path, and all the File Manager are in src folder, then you can understand my situation.

Thanks

PS: I found a patch from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1009550&page=2, and did a patch, now I can make my Title Bar show full path, but hope this patch can incorporate to Nautilus, so I don't need to patch everytime when I get an update.

the package "nemo" supports this, a fork of nautilus.

Can you help with this problem?
