Why is the lauchpad package outdated?

Asked by davidhcefx

For Ubuntu Bionic (18.04), the nano version still remains at 2.9.3-2, rather than the newest 6.2 or somewhere near.
Since Bionic doesn't seem to lack critical dependencies that might cause building the newest code to fail, so I wonder why is it outdated?

If you need the newer version, you can try installing the version from a PPA, e.g. https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/backports
(Standard disclaimer for PPAs applies of course)
