How come myunity is not part of the standard Ubuntu12 install

i should delete the question but i cant find the button ... i couldnt find a way to get more workspaces so i had to google this, it works perfectly, that function should be standard part of this unity interface thing but the themes and icons do horrible things, i don't code so i won't judge ofourse, is there any standard way in ubuntu 12 to change the number of spaces to work on pls ?
