Cannot connect to an Ubuntu host on my network

Asked by Mark Mueller

I have an Ubuntu host running MySQL. I can get out to the internet. However, I cannot ping the box or connect to the MySql database. The box has a static ip address. It's acting like there is a firewall that is blocking the request. The Ubuntu version us the latest one, with the Unity desktop.

Thanks

Do you have physical access to this box, or is it a remote system? Can you confirm that it is up via some means? If so, can you get a login shell? Is it in your subnet, or is it on the general internet?

I fixed it. I had changed the IP address, but, it did not update in the eth0 connection - I had to change the IP on two different screens.
