Recent version of libmpv-dev

I would like to have a recent version of libmpv-dev. I'm on Ubuntu 16.04. I tried to build it myself from source, but although I did get no errors, HW acceleration is not working. How can I get a more recent version?
Can someone help me out with the correct build options such that I can build it myself in the future?
