System>admin>software sources>check all under Ubuntu software (except source) and first two under updates tab.Reload.If you don't have plugins installed type in applications>accessories>terminal

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-resrticted-extras

or you can do the same in add/remove select all available programs>other >ubuntu-restricted-extras

That will give you plugins,Java and more...

In synaptic search box type mplayer and when you find it just install. When you install it find it in synaptic again and right click on package will show you what else is recommended for install with that package.I think mancoder is one of that things. If you want to playwma you will need to add Medibuntu repository as described on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu.For DVD read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs

Sorry for incomplete info. After you add medibuntu repo go to the synaptic and in search box type w32 codecs (or w64 if you use 64 bit architecture).

Can you help with this problem?
