no mp3gain package for Ubuntu 15.04

Asked by Charlie Fehnel

There is no mp3gain package available for Ubuntu 15.04. Is there a plan to support mp3gain in 15.04, or do we have to look for a replacement?

I suggest you report a bug. Vivid is not ready and not stable

Please look in the publication history of that package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mp3gain/+publishinghistory

(From Debian) ROM; dead upstream, probably insecure; Debian bug #761847 https://bugs.debian.org/761847 "

That package was removed on purpose. Debian proposes python-rgain as replacement.

python-rgain looks like a suitable replacement. However, it is not available for 15.04 either. I'll pursue this on the python-rgain launchpad page.

CORRECTION: python-rgain IS available for 15.04. Either I had a typo when looking for it earlier, or they just made it available.

mp3gain *actually works*

I tried python-rgain, applied track gain on a bunch of test mp3s, they were all different volumes, fed them mp3gain, and they were all equal volume like I, and all of us who use normalizers want.

I think removing it was a mistake, and I think code that actually works should win over technical correctness.

Meanwhile, this PPA exists https://launchpad.net/~flexiondotorg/+archive/ubuntu/audio
