Package mp32ogg for maverick

Asked by mlx

Was there a reason to drop this neat utility from the repos? I used karmic before maverick, so I didn't notice it was dropped from lucid too. :-(

You could compile the source if you require it, I only see it for karmic in the official repos.

This user, with a PPA, seems to have showed some interest, maybe they can help you:

Thanks, that ppa has a package for lucid but not maverick.
Meanwhile, a friend did some digging and found the package was dropped from debian due to being unmaintained and apparently broke with new python version (or something)> http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=564836
Which directed me to what looks like a solid replacement - dir2ogg. According to the project's home (http://jak-linux.org/projects/dir2ogg/), it was even inspired by mp32ogg and seems to be syntax-compatible for a drop-in replacement. I'll stick with that. Might be a good idea to add "Replaces mp32ogg" to the package.
