thunderbird dialog boxes are cut off at the bottom

Asked by Kayvee

I have a 15-inch monitor with a 1024x768 resolution. When I open thunderbird and, say, want to add an email address to the Address Book, a dialog box appears. But because the dialog box is too big, 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons are not displayed. [see screenshot here: http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/7060/screenshotb.png] This happens with large dialog boxes from all programs. When I connect the same computer to a larger monitor and change the resolution to 1280x1024, it works just fine. Is this a bug? Or is there a way to resize the dialog boxes or something...?

It's a bug. Please send a report to bug-squad using the "Help" menu and i'll send this to them too. The 2 reports can be linked up easily - one will be marked as a duplicate. I try changing the resolution and then count the number of times i have to press the tab key to get to the right box, then reset my resolution.

Good luck with this

Tom :)

I posted the same question in Ubuntu Forums. Here is what I got:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1076298

That said, I agree with Tom that it is some kind of a bug. I think Scroll bars should appear whenever such a situation occurs... (I did not know that there was an 'OK' button at the end of that thunderbird dialog box until I saw it in the larger monitor!) Since Tom already posted it as a bug, I am not posting it again. And I am marking this issue as 'Solved' for now...

Oh yes moving the top and bottom panels out of the way is quite handy when some java script changes Mozilla to be larger than my screen size. I leave them permanently unlocked for that. It's handy to know about the Alt and drag but it doesn't seem to work on mine and is only really a work-around as i still think its a big problem. I meant to post it as a thunderbird bug but made a mistake. i think i can change it but i also have the same problem with a lot of other apps such as OpenOffice and Gimp. Thanks for the link to the work-around :)

Thanks and regards from
