The name of Thunderbird's executable is just 'thunderbird', so try typing 'thunderbird' (without the quotes) into the "Tools > Options > Internet > E-Mail" box.

Reinstalled open office and then a list appeared under e-mail and i was able to pick thunderbird. Thanks so much for feedback. Now it works.
