Incoming email

Asked by GBMS

I am unable to receive email From one of my accounts

I am having a problem with my inbound e-mail only, I can send messages without a problem

Operating system:

Ubuntu
Release 8.04 (hardy)
Kernel Linux 2.6.24-16-generic
GNOME 2.22.1

E-mail client mozilla thunderbird version 2.0.0.12 (20080227)

on my win xp box running thunderbird with the same exact server settings everything works fine
for some reason this only happens under ubuntu and only on the incoming email on only one email account
all the other accounts can send and receive.

the error I get is connection to server timed out

Are you positive your SSL and Authentication Methods are the same? If either of these is different from what your provider supports chances are that it will fail with a timeout. There are usually different types of authentication methods (Plain, Login, etc...) and SSL/TLS. Can you tweak with those and see if it works:

Try Plain with SSL, Plain without SSL

Thanks for your suggestion, I've been wracking my brains over this and it turned out to be a simple typo in the server name.
I double checked to make sure the settings were all the same, I guess I should have triple checked!! :P
