Totem movie player swf codec needed

Asked by Motion_Noob

So now I'd like to view the video files captured by motion (which show an .swf extension.) Trying to open them, I get a dailog asking "Search for suitable codec? The required software to play this file is not installed..." It says the search will include software which is not officially supported. I'd prefer to use supported software.

Can anyone recommend a good source for the codec for swf files for the Totem Movie Player? Thanks.

you can go ahead and use the not officially supported codecs if you want to use the shockwave flash video. otherwise you can try to use supported formats like mpg, avi, mkv, etc

Wow, didn't know that Totem plays flash files. ##I still run Hardy.

Have you already played with the configuration of motion...

From the motion.conf file....

# Codec to used by ffmpeg for the video compression.
# Timelapse mpegs are always made in mpeg1 format independent from this option.
# Supported formats are: mpeg1 (ffmpeg-0.4.8 only), mpeg4 (default), and msmpeg4.
# mpeg1 - gives you files with extension .mpg
# mpeg4 or msmpeg4 - give you files with extension .avi
# msmpeg4 is recommended for use with Windows Media Player because
# it requires no installation of codec on the Windows client.
ffmpeg_video_codec mpeg4

Hope this helps
