Why is vga16fb missing from blacklist-framebuffer.conf?

Hi!

I wonder if the vga16fb was left out of the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf intentionally. I use Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 (without X server) as a guest in Oracle VirtualBox 3.2.10 r66523 on a Windows XP host, and I noticed that the scrolling and the overall resposiveness of the console is very slow - nearly unusable. I managed to hunt down the source of the problem: it was the vga16fb module, which had to be blacklisted to solve the issue.

If all the other console framebuffer modules are disabled, why is vga16fb enabled? Is it a "safe" default or is it a bug?

Some people may find it helps them, some hinder so you were right to blacklist in your case. I wouldn't say this would a bug personally. You can log one if you suspect one

Thank you for the answer! I agree this isn't really a bug, and it should go into some kind of a VirtualBox FAQ or something.

I don't know though what is this "duplicate" thing, I hope that clicking on the "Problem Solved" button will be enough.

You could create a guide on the ubuntuforum regarding this to share knowledge. Clicking solved will be sufficient :)
