How to enable modemmanager without network-manager installed?

Asked by João M. S. Silva

Hi,

How do I enable modemmanager at start, if I don't have network-manager installed? This is a server which does not need network-manager, but needs modemmanager.

I don't think 2G or 3G connectivity should depend on network (ethernet or wi-fi) connectivity.

Moreover, network-manager brings a lot of packages with it. I don't need them in my server.

Should this work:

$ update-rc.d modemmanager enable
update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/modemmanager: file does not exist

?

Some months ago this was not an issue. modemmanager started at boot without any configuration from my part.

Thanks.
