Did you install mldonkey from Ubuntu menu Applications > Add/Remove... or from System > Administration > Synaptic ?
What are you looking for, to connect to ed2k, bittorrent or gnutella network?
You also have for torrents: Applications > Internet > Transmission
for gnutella (fast like limewire): Applications > Add/Remove... > Search for: gtk-gnutella
for ed2k: amule
