Asked by Ross Ashley

I can find no solution to this anywhere ... miro wants me to install the latest Flash but I already have that installed. Why is Miro in the Ubuntu repos if it cannot be made to work???

Because you haven't configured it or there is an issue. Simple.

Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; dpkg -l | grep flash; dpkg -l | grep gnash; dpkg -l | grep swf; dpkg -l | grep miro

Thanks

In future, if a command is given on one line, keep it on one line, don't chop up commands as you may cause errors. The EXACT command was given so you can copy and paste the command. This removes user error.

sudo apt-get --purge remove adobe-flash-properties-gtk; sudo dpkg -P flashplugin-installer; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get -y install flashplugin-nonfree

Should now be ok

Try:

mkdir -p ~/.mozilla/plugins; cp /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins

Then retry miro.

I got:
brashley46@ross-desktop:~$ mkdir -p ~/.mozilla/plugins; cp
cp: missing file operand
Try `cp --help' for more information.
brashley46@ross-desktop:~$ /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins
bash: /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so: Permission denied

I presumed this meant there was an extra space somehow introduced in between cp and /usr/share ... so then I did:
brashley46@ross-desktop:~$ mkdir -p ~/.mozilla/plugins; cp /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins
brashley46@ross-desktop:~$

by hand and got no joy.

So you have added a 3rd party server and installed from that. Have you tried removing the PPA and Miro, then installing the version in the official Natty repo?

I do not remember why I installed that ppa ... is 4.0.1 in the official repo?

Ross Ashley (brashley46) said :

Answer: It's not. So I went into Synaptic, disabled the miro-releases ppa, uninstalled miro, deleted the .miro folder from my machine, downloaded miro 3.5.1 from the official repo ... and it will will not play Youtube videos. Khrappe. Lessee ... I now run mkdir -p ~/.mozilla/plugins; cp /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins
and get ... you guessed it ...
"You need to upgrade your flash player to watch this video. Download it from Adobe."

Incidentally, I now get

brashley46@ross-desktop:~$ lsb_release -a; uname -a; dpkg -l | grep flash; dpkg -l | grep gnash; dpkg -l | grep swf; dpkg -l | grep miro

I googled a lot for solution and didn't find any good one.
I think this is Miro bug, but I don't know the software. I'll try one more solution. Thanks many for you patience

Got the same problem with Ubuntu 11.10 and Miro 4.0.3-2.
Flash is working fine in Chromium and Firefox but miro tells me I had to install it first.
The adobe-flashplugin installed is 11.1.102.55-0oneiric1.

Can you help with this problem?
