KDE 4.2 crashing frequently

Asked by jetbundle

Hi,

Recently KDE started crashing on me frequently. Basically just after log in and sometimes at random times, it starts to soak up at least 100% of one of my CPUs. Some times the malicious process is kded and I can kill it with singal 9, and sometimes it's plasma, xorg and a few others that soak up the CPU. Sometimes I can rescue that by logging out and re-starting xorg, but if I go to a different login screen and kill kdm or xorg, then the whole system crashes (i.e. all login shells turn black).
I don't know whether it's related to that, sometimes if I watch a wmv stream (with the vlc plugin) in a website that uses flash in firefox, the whole graphics freezes and I can't even switch to another shell.

Does anybody know any suggestions or fixes or bug reports?

Thanks

So apparently nobody bothered.

In case someone finds this by google: A symptomatic fix is to go to another shell and kill plasma and kwin, and then start them again - your xorg and KDE session will stay alife.
