mysterius KDE black screen crash

Asked by jetbundle

Hi,

I get occasionally a kind of crash on KDE 4.2, that's basically just a black screen with the cursor still visible, and everything still running - just the screen is black.
If I go to another shell, and look at what's running, there are no abnormal processes and everything is running as usual. Killing processes that I had a hunch they are culpruits doesn't help it, so the only thing I managed to do is a reboot.
It is triggered by some random actions in mathematica (which should pop up the help window), but I presume it's not a mathematica issue and might be triggered otherwise too.
Does anyone have any help or useful comments?
Thanks!

Just in case someone comes across this by search:
Symptomatically, this can be fixed by killing kwin from another login shell, and then re-start kwin (supposed you have a terminal at hand and accessible without kwin in KDE).
