If you downloaded and installed Ubutu, Gnome will be included. Because Gnome is the basic GUI of Ubuntu systems - excepting you've downloaded K-Ubutu. Then it will be KDE.

GNOME Do has nothing to do with the question. GNOME is simply the standard desktop environment of Ubuntu so when you've downloaded (and installed) Ubuntu, you' ve got GNOME. Other flavors of Ubuntu use other desktop environments as mentioned earlier.

If you have an already installed Kubuntu you can easily add the Gnome Desktop Manager by opening a terminal using Kde menu then you must type:

sudo apt-get update

the system will ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then type:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

Then you will be able to choose default Desktop Environment interface before you make login at startup.

Hope this helps

Ahah, try using "Synaptic Package Manager" instead of "Add/Remove Applications". I couldn't find Open Arena until i did that too. Go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager is near the end of the sub-menu

It asks for your normal user password, not your SuperUser/Root one

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

if you want to use add/remove programs.
where it says show click the drop down to the right and the select all programs

this will allow you to search through alot more programs.

also synaptic is also a great place to install software.

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/re-posting a question just before america arrives online after work/school gives the best chance of getting a good few answers - such is the nature of the internet.

If the problem has been resolved then please follow the link to the forum thread and mark it as Solved but please give us a clue how you did manage to solve it and also use the button under where you type stuff in rather than giving me karma credit points for just sending this note to you.

Apologies, good luck and many regards from
Tom :)
