Recommended upgrade path

Asked by Magnus

What is the recommended upgrade path for mediawiki?

For example, now that Natty is our, suppose I have an older system that runs mediawiki (installed from the ubuntu packets) and I want to upgrade it to Natty and Nattys version of mediawiki.

I do know how to upgrade a mediawiki as per mediawikis recommencations. But what is the "ubuntu way" of doing this?
Is there some clever shourtcuts one can make?
I don't want to confuse the packet manager, so just making a manual upgrade is probably not the right way...

Any ideas, anyone?

If you upgrade to natty using update-manager, which is the recommended way to upgrade, then you will have natty's mediawiki version installed and running in the same way you have it running now. I wouldn't try to install natty's mediawiki package on maverick.

Ok, that sounds promising.
So, in the upgrade to Natty the database and other parts of database will be migrated to the newer version automatically?

Backup first, but yes, the package maintainers should have taken care of that.
