How to render videos that they can be played on a phone?
I want to play videos on my phones which I record from my TV. I use Avidemux to bring them into a proper format. Which one will work? Has anyone experience on that?
I tried e.g. Xvid, high quality, one pass
but this did not work. Some other videos work directly others not. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the answer. It took me some time to play around again.
I was able to generate directly playable videos with this answer. Thanks.
I still need to fiddle a bit around since the videos taken from a TV stream are not 1:1 playable on the phone due to a mismatch in the aspect ratio. I will now try to work this out.
I use in Avidemux the following basic settings now:
Video: MPEG-4 AVC
Audio: direct copy
Container: MP4 (PSP)
I have to add a filter to adjust the size of the video from e.g. 720x576 to 720x400. Only with this setting I get 16:9 videos on the phone screen (which seems to be an issue with the different pixel aspect ratios of a PAL signal and how it is put on a PC/Phone screen.
