Asus My Cinema U3100 Mini Digital TV Receiver not recognized from 9.10 and 10.04

Asked by manshar

My Asus My CInema U3100 Mini Digital TV Receiver is not recognised by my desktop Karmic 9.10 nor my HP Mini notebook running 10.04. lsusb gives Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0b05:173f ASUSTek Computer, Inc and the last few lines of dmesg gives

So it seems like it should be working but I cant see it. I should mention the dongle came with a cd containing drivers for an eepc running linux which I did not install given that the dmesg seems to indicate it is installed and recognised and the driver dvb_usb_dib0700 is registered. I think i shoud see the asus somewhere on the desktop or the pull down Places menu or Applications Sound and Video. I hope this is enough info. Thanks

I will add some more information:

I entered this command after some research and it shows that "w_scan" can see and access the asus 3100 and created channel.conf and populated it with all my local channels. So some part of the system can see the asus but programs like xine and vlc and me-tv cannot. What does this mean? Thankyou.

Hi,

Given that w_scan was able to communicate with your device indicates (at
least to me) that's its working as it should. What version of Me TV are you
using?

Ok well the latest version is 1.3.2 you can get this version by visiting
launched.net and on the front page you will see in the featured programs a
link for Me TV from there you can install the development ppa (instructions
are provided on that page) then you will be kept up to date for future
releases, iirc there was a lot of work done on the fronted detection...
please advise how you go ;-)
